Cyber-Bullying

As part of anti-bullying week schools have been encouraged to tackle the issues surrounding online bullying, also known as cyber-bullying.

Below is some useful information for both parents and children.

  1. Always ask an adult you trust, before you send a picture or information that could later be shared with other people.  Remember, you don't know what will happen to any pictures or information once you have shared them.  What you think may be a joke, could be very upsetting for another person when it has been shared publically.
  2. Think before you send a message about yourself or any other person.  It doesn't take long for it to be shared with others - that includes your friends and enemies and family!
  3. Never give out personal information when it can be shared by others.  You may trust your new friends but you don't know who your friends may send your information on to.
  4. Treat any passwords you have like your toothbrush - don't let anyone else use it!
  5. If you receive nasty messages, texts, comments etc always tell a trusted adult e.g. a parent or teacher.
  6. Keep evidence of cyber-bullying so that it can be traced and dealt with.
