PUPIL PREMIUM PARENT CHAT AND COFFEE SESSION

We are holding our next Pupil Premium Parent Chat and Coffee Session on Thursday 24th May between 1pm and 3pm.  We would love people to attend to discuss any issues in school related to their children. The meeting will be held at the Broxtowe Voluntary Action Building, Oban House, 8 Chilwell Road, Beeston, NG9 1EJ.  Mr Joyce will be there to offer advice and discuss ideas.  Come along for tea and biscuits and maybe even some cake!

RAMADAN

If your child will be fasting during Ramadan we would like to work with you to make sure we look after their welfare in the best way we can.   As Ramadan begins shortly we would appreciate it if you could let us know if your child will be fasting and if there is anything we can do to help support you and your child. Click here to see the LA guidance.

SCHOOL UNIFORM – NEW SUPPLIER

I have had some feedback from the Parents’ Forum over recent months that parents would like more choice about where they can buy school uniform with the Round Hill logo.  As a result of this, I am pleased to tell you that Tesco F&F Embroidered Uniforms are now supplying Round Hill embroidered uniform via their website.  You are able to buy both embroidered and non-embroidered uniform through the Tesco School Uniform website as well as book bags, rucksacks and PE bags.  You can place orders online and have them delivered to your home address.  We have updated the School Uniform section on our website (under the parents tab) with the details.  There is a Tesco F&F flyer with all of the information you need to know, which you can access on our website or by clicking here.  To access the Tesco uniform website directly to order the uniform, the website address that you need is www.tesco.com/ues

In addition, I can confirm that Morleys School Uniform Shop in Chilwell will continue to stock our uniform and you can still contact them by phone or pop into the local store in Chilwell.

Whilst I believe in children maintaining their individuality, it is also important for the children to recognise that we do have a school uniform and in keeping our uniform policy very flexible this allows our children a choice of red or navy.  Full details of our uniform policy are on our website.  In addition, I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that all children should wear sturdy school shoes and that trainers are only allowed for PE.

If you have any questions or any feedback regarding school uniform, please contact the school office.

READING VOLUNTEERS

We are looking for any parents, grandparents or other family members who may be interested in becoming reading volunteers within the school.  This would be to listen to the children read and would be across the various year groups although primarily within KS2.

Do you have any spare time and would you like to get involved on a regular basis?  We would carry out a DBS check and once this is in place would provide suitable training to help the children with their reading.  We are looking to have some additional volunteers in place for the start of the next academic year in September although there may be some opportunities over the summer term if you would like to get involved sooner.  If you are interested, please come and talk to a member of our office team or send an email expressing your interest.

DRIVING AND PARKING AROUND SCHOOL

We have been made aware of some parents dropping their children at school by car on Foster Avenue then driving through the pedestrian zone to access Chilwell Road.  Not only is this a driving offence as this is clearly sign posted as a pedestrian area but it is also putting our children, who walk this route to school, at risk of getting hit by a car.  Please pass on the details of anyone endangering children and causing problems.

LUNCHTIME WRISTBANDS

If you have any vegetarian or special diet wristbands at home, please can you send these back to school so that we can re-use them within school.

SPARE WELLIES

We would be very grateful for any donations of spare wellies, particularly in sizes for KS2 children.  It really helps us to have some spares in school so any donations can be dropped off to the office.  Many thanks.

ART WEEK

During week commencing Monday 21st May, we will be having Art Week at school.  All of the children will be involved in an exciting art project that we look forward to sharing with you after half term.

PARENTS’ FORUM – UPDATE

Thank you to those parents who came along to the meetings this week.  We had some really useful discussions.  I will write a blog and place it onto the school website soon.

Those observant parents will have noticed I will be holding one additional Parents’ Forum meeting this term on Thursday 7th June at 2pm.  We don’t usually have another Parents’ Forum in the term, but after listening to some feedback I have decided to add another afternoon session.  I look forward to seeing you there if you are able to make it.

WARHAMMER TRIP

On Tuesday 1st May, Warhammer Club took a trip to Warhammer World in Lenton.  The club is going from strength to strength with over 20 children meeting each week to paint and play games. The teachers and children explored the fantastic exhibition centre and saw lots of amazing models.  Some of the club took some time to work on their painting skills with one of the Warhammer members of staff, painting some goblins from The Hobbit Strategy Battle Game using a range of different painting techniques. The children very much enjoyed playing games with their models on the tables in the gaming hall and learnt a few new rules along the way!  After such a successful trip, Miss Morle is hoping that we will be able to organise another one soon. Thank you to Miss Morle for organising the trip along with support on the day from Mrs Farrell-Kay and Mr Morrell.

SCHOOL CALENDAR – DIARY DATES

All of the dates for the Summer term are on the website so please click here to view the school calendar.

At one of the Parents’ Forum meetings this week we spoke about diary dates and the best way to communicate them.  We have trialled putting some specific dates in the monthly Newsletters but feel that it makes most sense to keep all of the dates in one place, this being on the school calendar on our website.  Occasionally, dates do need to change and therefore by keeping them in one location it means we can be sure we are consistent in communicating these.

Yours sincerely
