Also, we are delighted that Miss Singh will be staying with us next term to continue to cover Miss Lee’s maternity leave.

In recent weeks we have also appointed Mr Andrew Heaps who will be the new Year 5/6 phase leader from September.  A huge thank you to Mr Abdy who has done a fantastic job whilst Mrs Paterson was on maternity leave.  We would like to thank all of our staff and wish them good luck in their new ventures.

CLASSES FOR NEXT ACADEMIC YEAR

On Monday 18th June the children will meet their new class teacher, where possible, in what we call a Mini Class Swap.  The aim is that the children find out which class they are in for next year and also settle any nerves they may have.

We understand that the vast majority of Parents/Carers are content and trust us to sort out class organisation in our usual way. However, we also understand that it can be an uncertain time of year for some pupils and we feel it is important to keep you informed so that we can work together to achieve what is best for everyone at Round Hill. We have several information events coming up that are aimed at keeping you informed which have been summarised as follows:

1) 18th June:  Mini Class Swap

2) 26th June 4-4.30pm:  Years 3-6 Parents Meeting Transition to New classes

3) 26th June 5–5.30pm:  Years 3-6 Parents Meeting Transition to New Classes

4) 4th July:  Class Swap Morning

5) 6th July:  Annual Reports Given Out

6) 10th July – 4-4.30pm:  Years 1&2 Parents Meeting Transition to New Classes

7) 10th July 3.30-5.00pm:  Parents Open Afternoon

We have used the same methodology as in previous years.  There is a full explanation of our class organisation strategy on the school website click here.

PARENTS MEETINGS – TRANSITION TO NEW CLASSES

The main focus of this event will be transition to new year groups.  The aim is to ease transition and to be familiar with the routines of the new class.  The date of this event will be 26th June for Years 3-6.  The event will run from 4-4.30pm and again at 5-5.30pm to allow parents who have children in two different year groups to attend both.  For children in Years 1&2, the event will run on 10th July from 4-4.30 pm.

CLASS SWAP / SCHOOL REPORTS / OPEN DAY

A ‘Class Swap Morning’ will be held on Wednesday 4th July when the children will spend a little more time with their new teacher.

We plan to hand out school reports on Friday 6th July.

As usual our Open Day will be held the following week, Tuesday 10th July between 3.30pm and 5pm when you will have the opportunity to see your child’s books, discuss their report and meet your child’s new class teacher.

YEAR 3/4 SPORTS DAY – RESERVE DATE CHANGE

Please note we have changed the reserve date of the Years 3/4 Sports Day from Thursday 21st June to Wednesday 20th June, at the same time of 10am to 11.30am.

YEAR 2 CAMP

The Year 2 camp, one of the most exciting events of the year, is fast approaching. The Year 2 camp will be taking place on Thursday 21st June - Friday 22nd June. Information regarding the Year 2 camp, including kit lists and timings, has already been provided for parents and is available on the school website. If you require other information, please do not hesitate to see a member of the KS1 team. If your child requires any medication during the camp, then please ensure that you have completed the medical information form or contacted your child's class teacher.

We need volunteer parental help to put up the tents.  If you can spare some time on the Wednesday 20th June between 1.30pm and 3.20pm it would be very much appreciated.  No experience is necessary and free refreshments! Could you let the office know ASAP if you are able to help please?

SQUID DINNER MONEY ACCOUNTS

Now that we are in the final half term of the academic year, I would like to request that you continue to ensure that there are sufficient funds in your Squid account to cover school meals.

In addition, if your child is in Year 6 and due to leave Round Hill then please consider whether you may be in credit at the end of term.  If you would like to transfer any outstanding balance to a sibling then the office team are able to do this for you so please get in touch with them.  Alternatively, if you are in credit at the end of term, you can request a refund via the ‘contact us’ section on sQuid.  Please note, the office team are not able to arrange refunds for you, only transfers to a siblings account within Round Hill.

PARKING AROUND SCHOOL

I’d like to take this opportunity to remind you that Nottinghamshire County Council uses a CCTV car to enforce parking outside of schools. It visits every school in Nottinghamshire and will record whilst passing the details of any cars parked illegally. The vehicle owners will receive a Penalty Charge Notice a few days later and over 1000 of these have been sent out as a consequence of using the vehicle. A second vehicle will be deployed shortly and parents are reminded not to park on the restrictions outside of the school in any circumstances. These restrictions are in place to provide a safe area outside of the school where the children will gather or cross the road and we ask for your help in keeping this area free of parked vehicles. The school can request enforcement from the car so if you have any concerns regarding parking please notify me or a member of the office team.

ART WEEK

The final week of last half term was whole school art week. The week was inspired by 'The Umbrellas' by Renoir and the children enjoyed creating their own piece of artwork which will be on show at our whole school art exhibition on Friday 6th July. Hope to see you there!

ROYAL WEDDING CELEBRATION

Thank you to the School Council for organising the celebrations and to Kate, Eleanor and Ava for writing this newsletter piece:

On Friday 18th May we celebrated Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding.  The celebration included a conga involving the whole school and everyone was allowed to wear red, white and blue.  It was organised by Ava and the School Council.  Everyone had a good time!  Some classes did Royal related activities like making cardboard wedding cakes and decorations.  We also had a special assembly commemorating the event.  Thank you parents for helping us to sort out the children’s outfits!

Here are some quotes from some children:

Kate:  “I found it really thrilling and exciting.  The day brought sunshine to the school”.

Alice:  “It was fun and exciting”.

Eleanor:  It was an excellent day”.

Millie:  I loved the conga because it was so fun”.

THE ROUND HILL BAKERY

The topic in Years 3/4 this half term has been the Round Hill Bakery. The children have been working hard on designing bakeries, creating advertising posters, investigating packages and of course learning how to bake. The highlight of the topic was running the actual bakery which happened at the end of the half term. Lots of parents, carers and friends turned out to support the bakery. The children sold their bread, cakes and scones and raised a staggering £246. The charity chosen to receive the money is Cruse Bereavement Care. Thank you to all who supported our bakery.  The Y3/4 team.

‘A SQUASH AND A SQUEEZE’

On Tuesday 22nd May the Foundation children were very lucky to see a performance of ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’.  Donna Evans and her group of ESOL students did an amazing job performing in English as English is not their first language.  Thank you from everyone in Foundation!  There will be a chance to see the group perform at our Summer Fair on Saturday 16th June and The Broxtowe Community Celebration on Saturday 7th July.

BROXTOWE MINI TENNIS COMPETITION

On Tuesday 22nd May, 8 Year 3 and 4 children accompanied by Miss Dawson and Mrs Wellington-Mills travelled to Attenborough Lawn Tennis Club to take part in the Broxtowe Mini Tennis Competition. Each competitor played 4 matches with three members of the team winning ALL of their matches! Outstanding! All of our tennis players competed amazingly well and after lots of fierce rallies, super serving and support from their team mates the results were announced and Round Hill came in an incredible 3rd place out of 7 schools. Huge congratulations to all who competed - well done!

SOUTH BROXTOWE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

On Thursday 24th May, 10 members of the school football squad, Mr Abdy and Charlie Walker attended the annual South Broxtowe football tournament which was held at Bramcote Hills Primary School. The team went into the competition feeling confident after having had a successful year of matches and they started off with a 3-0 victory in their group. They followed this up with another couple of wins, a defeat and a draw which left the team in second place in the group. This meant that they faced The Lanes in the semi-finals and a last second goal from Frankie secured a place in the final. Here they faced a confident side from Fairfield School but an early goal from Ted settled the nerves and ultimately proved to be enough to bring the fiercely contested trophy back to Round Hill for the first time in a good few years. Well done to everyone who has taken part in the football club this year. It's been a good one!

BROXTOWE ROUNDERS COMPETITION

On Thursday 7th June 12 children and Mr Abdy took the short tram ride to George Spencer Academy to take part in the Broxtowe Rounders competition.  The team were placed in a group with Kimberley, Lawrence View and The Lanes and managed to get through the first stage of the competition unbeaten with two wins and a draw. This meant that they went through to the final round robin against teams from Bramcote Hills and Trowell School. Again, the children played fantastically well and we finished the tournament with two more victories which meant that Round Hill were crowned champions! Well done to all of the children involved!

SCHOOL CALENDAR – DIARY DATES

COMMUNITY NEWS

RHA NEWS

On Saturday 12th May, over 150 Round Hill children and their younger siblings participated in our inaugural fun run. We were very fortunate to have the perfect weather! The children had great fun running around the school field and scrambling through the inflatable obstacle course. Many of the children completed the maximum 2 kilometres, including some of the pre schoolers!!

Many thanks to our main sponsor Magikats and our supporting sponsors (please see the list below).  Also, many thanks to all the volunteers for making this event such a great success.  We hope to make this an annual event. All money raised will go towards the "mile track”. Once we know exactly how much the fun run has raised we will let you know. We still have a long way to go to raise the money we need so if anyone has any fundraising ideas then please let the RHA know…. rhacommittee@gmail.com
