HALF TERM AND INSET DAY

A reminder that we break up for half term on Friday 26th October.  Our half term holiday is from Monday 29th October through to Friday 2nd November.  We have an Inset Day on Monday 5th November meaning that children return to school on Tuesday 6th November.

HARVEST ASSEMBLY

We will be holding a harvest assembly (children only) on Tuesday 23rd October. Donations of food produce including tins and packets can be brought into school any time from now until the morning of Tuesday 23rd October and added to the display we will create in the school hall. We are collecting produce for Hope House on Boundary Road in Beeston.

SCHOOL MENU

Our current school menu runs through until February half term.  However, we have made a couple of changes to the menu as follows:  Tuesday of Week 2 will be sausage, chips and vegetables followed by yoghurt.  Thursday of Week 3 will be spaghetti bolognese with crusty bread.  This slightly revised menu is on our school website which you can view by clicking here.

INDIVIDUAL SCHOOL PHOTOS

We are working with a new photography company this year and are looking forward to individual school photos in school on Wednesday 24th October.  Any siblings in school will have the chance to have their photo taken together during the school day.  If you have a younger sibling(s) who you would like to be included in a family photo, please come to the school hall from 8.30am on the day.

YEAR 6 BEAUMANOR TRIP MEETING

We are really looking forward to the Year 6 Beaumanor trip from 20th to 23rd November 2018.  This is a quick reminder that our meeting to discuss all of the final arrangements will be on Monday 22nd October from 4pm-4.45pm in the Eagles classroom.

REMINDER – SECONDARY SCHOOL APPLICATIONS

We would like to remind all Year 6 parents/carers that the deadline for applying for a secondary school place is 31st Oct 2018.

SCHOOL CLUBS LIST

It was raised at the recent Parents Forum that parents were not aware that a list of all the School Clubs available to children is on our school website.  If you want to find out any information please look at the ‘Children’ tab, then click on ‘Club Information’ or click here to access it directly.

GENERAL CLUBS INFORMATION

Sporting activities are back in full swing at Round Hill after the summer holidays. Both the school football and netball teams have had competitive matches with around 30 children also attending weekly training sessions for both clubs. Cross Country club is proving as popular as ever with between 40 and 50 children from Years 5 and 6 attending the Friday lunch time club. Try-outs for our successful cheerleading squad and sportshall athletics team have taken place with over 50 children from Years 5 and 6 in attendance at both. This is on top of the Key Stage 1 archery club which is proving very popular and a brand new sport for school - tchoukball not only being taught in lessons but also being run as an after school club for Years 3 and 4. It is fantastic to see so much sport going on in school and I'm sure there is a lot more to come!

FOOTBALL MATCHES

The school football team has been involved in two matches against some of our local rivals and they have put in a couple of excellent performances. The first match was on Monday 1st October against Bramcote Hills and we took the lead from a great goal from Daniel. Unfortunately, the opposition managed to get a couple of goals back to edge the match 2-1 but the boys should be really proud of their performance.  The second match took place at Round Hill on Thursday 4th October and was against Chetwynd Road.  Again, we were on the wrong side of the result but I was so proud of how the team supported each other and in both matches we had players who had never played a competitive game of football before. Well done to everyone involved.

CROSS COUNTRY

On Saturday 6th October, a record 25 children from Years 5 and 6, along with a band of intrepid supporters, made the journey up the M1 to Mansfield to take part in the first race of the Nottinghamshire Schools' Cross Country League. The weather was typical for cross country but this didn't dampen the spirits of the runners. Everyone performed brilliantly and also supported each other superbly well. We finished the races with top ten results for Charlotte in the girls' race and  Alex, William and Samuel in the boys' race. This sets us up brilliantly for success in the next two races and is also great preparation for the Broxtowe championships which will take place later in October. Thank you to all the parents who ferried children (and a teacher) to the event and congratulations to all the children who took part.

DRI-TRIATHLON REPORT

On Tuesday 25th September, 60 children from across Years 5 and 6 attended the dri-triathlon on the school field set up by Mr Benson (Broxtowe Active Schools co-ordinator). The event saw groups of 3 competing in three disciplines: Cycling, rowing and running. Fiercely competitive at times we saw some amazing athleticism across the phase and some terrific times posted too. Particular mention should go to Tilly and Toby who showed extreme determination to succeed.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ADELLE!

A huge congratulations to Adelle from Osprey who won the Lakeside Arts Centre Fairytale competition for her story called 'The Secret'. Adelle used a story that she wrote at school in Mrs Aplin's class in Year 4 and extended it for the competition during the summer holidays. Click here to read Adelle’s story on the Lakeside Arts website.  Well done Adelle!

BOOK FAIR – THANK YOU

Thank you to everyone who attended our Book Fair. It was a huge success and we raised nearly £1,000. We have been able to purchase lots of new books for Round Hill.
