Thank You – Parents Evening
Thank you to everyone who attended this event, attendance was once again really high. Your support is always very much appreciated.
Thank you also to those of you who took the time to complete the Annual Questionnaire to Parents/Carers. The results of which will be placed on the school website soon.
Online Parents Evening Feedback
Thank you to everyone who responded to the survey monkey and gave us feedback about this new initiative. The survey is now closed. 96% of you (69 responses) said you overwhelmingly preferred the new system. I have read all of the comments and we will pass them onto the software developer to make it even better when we use it again in the spring term. Cyber Bullying
Last week in school I talked to the children about being safe on the internet and this included cyber bullying. As you would expect we take bullying very seriously at Round Hill and this includes cyber-bullying. In order to minimise the risk, the school website contains a list of top tips for children including:
Never giving out personal information, treating any passwords like toothbrushes - don't let anyone else use yours! If you receive nasty messages, texts, comments etc… always tell an adult you trust e.g. a parent or teacher. You can find out more about ‘Cyber-Bullying’ by clicking here.
Whilst I feel our role as a school is fundamentally aimed at supporting children make appropriate choices, where necessary, we will report children who deliberately break the rules and we will speak to the child's parents.
Social Media Networking
Social networking sites such as Facebook or Beeston Online are a very popular means of communication. (It is worth remembering that a child under the age of 13 should not be able to set up an account unless they have provided false information. Providing false information to set up a Facebook page is a violation of Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities)
Whilst social media networking can be a wonderful tool there are times when it may be misused. In the last week or so it has been brought to my attention that social network sites have been used to help support families in our school community. Whilst the sentiments of the messages are wonderful to read, I would urge caution and for parents to think carefully about using your child’s name or the name of other children from Round Hill School. This includes being careful about using information which makes children easily identifiable.
If parents have anything they feel we ought to know about in school or we can make improvements then please do let us know. Equally if you see any inappropriate material about pupils or school in general please let us know so we have the ability to respond in the correct manner.
If there are issues between pupils or parents have concerns about cyberbullying please speak to school directly and allow us to resolve them. We are experienced in dealing with these matters and can invariably ‘nip things in the bud’ before they escalate out of control. I report any incidents in my termly report to Governors. If you have any concerns or want to discuss anything please let us know and we will be more than happy to help.
Cold Winter Days
As always, we aim to keep school open in the poor weather. We understand the disruption it causes to the local community and businesses when schools close. We are fortunate to have a site that has good access, but some staff do have to travel long distances which could contribute to our school closure.
Unless you hear otherwise please assume school is open. However, there may be a time when a decision is made to close school. Communications about school closure will be in the form of information posted on the school website and a text sent to the primary mobile phone number you have given us. I will also inform the local radio - BBC Radio Nottingham can be found on 103.8, 95.5FM, 1584AM, DAB and live on the BBC iPlayer.
If you are interested in joining a ‘Snow Busting Team’ please let me know via email and I will add your name to the list of parent volunteers who are willing to turn up at school with a shovel to help clear the paths around school.
Children in Need – FRiday 18th Nov
On Friday 18th November children will be allowed to come to school dressed in something spotty to raise money for Children in Need. A family donation of 50p or more would be wonderful.
