NEWSLETTER 11 – 8TH FEBRUARY 2017

THE GREAT BIG DANCE OFF'

On Monday 23rd January we took the KS2 dance club to the East Midlands finals of 'The Great Big Dance off' at the Albert Hall. The girls were all very excited at the prospect of performing and did so extremely well. Unfortunately, we didn't place but they all had a great time.

REMINDER - SAINSBURY'S ACTIVE VOUCHERS

It's that time of year again! Please could you start collecting your Sainsbury's Active Kids Vouchers and bringing them into school.  We really do benefit a great deal from this scheme, through the provision of equipment for playtimes, PE lessons and extra-curricular clubs. The box for the vouchers will be in reception or you can give them to your child's class teacher. Thank you

NO PARKING ON NUART ROAD OR IN THE PEARSON CENTRE CAR PARK

Another reminder that parking is not allowed on Nuart Road. In parking there you run the risk of being fined – This also means no Waiting - I have spoken to the police and the parking attendant and they will be making regular visits to Nuart Road.  More importantly, parents parking here illegally are adding to the congestion and putting children at greater risk.  Please do not park here, even for a short while, for the safety of all our children.  Equally please do not park in the Pearson Centre Car Park unless you are legitimately using the Centre’s facilities.  We do not want to be causing unnecessary disruption to our neighbours. I have asked for the details of anyone parking here without consent to be passed on to school.

BOOK FAIR – THANK YOU

Thank you for all of your support. We managed to raise over £480.00 for school books.

SCHOOL GAMES SILVER AWARD

The School has been awarded the School Games Silver Award for all the hard work that has taken place in PE and sport in school over the past twelve months. This is an improvement on last year's bronze award and hopefully next year it will be gold! Thank you to everyone involved in sport throughout the school for their continued hard work.

PARENTS EVENING

As mentioned in the last Newsletter we are looking forward to meeting with you at the Parent/Teacher Consultation Meeting on Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th February.  This is a chance to meet to discuss the achievements your child has made since September.

A letter (Click here to view) is on the school website to give you instructions about how to book an appointment.

After positive feedback we are using the electronic appointment booking system again.  We will be sending out the link on Wednesday 8th February at 2 p.m. The link will be sent to your mobile phone and/or email address which will take you to our online booking system to select a time convenient for you.

TAKING TIME TO TALK (EXTENDED PARENTS EVENING)

If you received a longer time to talk with your child’s teacher in the Autumn Term then teachers will be in touch with you to arrange a time to meet. After much thought we have decided that the electronic system is not suitable for booking these appointments as we want to allow as much flexibility as possible in order to make sure all parents can attend.

FOOTBALL NEWS

On Friday 27th January, Mr Abdy accompanied 19 Year 5 and 6 children to Nottingham Junior High School for a couple of friendly football fixtures. It was the first time the team has played together since October so we were just treating it as a training session however some of the football played by both teams was fantastic. We were on the wrong end of the two results but that didn't take anything away from the afternoon that we all enjoyed. Well done to everyone involved.

HALF TERM – SCHOOL CLOSED

School closes Friday 10th February and reopens on Monday 20th February.

PARENTS’ FORUM – THANK YOU

Thank you to everyone who attended the recent Spring Term Parents’ Forum meetings. The main item we talked about was payments for residential visits.  A letter was written to all parents in Year 4 to explain how things have been adjusted.  Click here to see the letter.  Essentially, we are making adjustments so that the payments can be spread more evenly throughout the year for all residential visits.

As usual I have added a blog to the website which highlights the other topics what we talked about.  Click here.

Advanced notice: The Summer Term Parents’ Forum will be held on Tuesday 9th May at 2.00 p.m. and 6.00 p.m.  It would be great to see you there.

INDOOR ROWING COMPETITION

On Thursday 2nd February, Mr Joyce took 8 children from key stage 2 to compete in an indoor rowing competition. The rowing team competed fiercely against six other schools, supporting each other throughout. The team achieved second place and represented Round Hill extremely well. Well done to all that competed.
