Newsletter 16 - 30th March 2016

NEWSLETTER 16 – 30TH MARCH 2016

BEING SAFE IN THE SUN

We always encourage the children to be safe in the sun.  When we return after Easter we will ensure that children do not spend too much time in direct sunlight.  Children are encouraged to wear a named sun hat and it would be helpful if your child has sun cream applied before they come to school in the morning.  We always ensure children have access to plenty of drinking water during the day to help keep them hydrated.

YEAR 2 CAMP

Year 2 camp will take place on Thursday 14th July. A meeting will be held on Thursday 21st April at 5.00 p.m. in the school hall to inform you of details about the camp. The meeting will last approximately 25 minutes.  You may have also noticed the date for the good work assembly (about the Camping experience) on Wednesday 20th July 10.15 a.m. If you would like to volunteer to help with the camp then please let Miss Hawkes know at the meeting on 21st April so we can complete the security checks in sufficient time.

STAFFING UPDATE

Mrs Devonshire will start her maternity leave at the start of the summer term.  The school office team is coordinating a collection if anyone would like to contribute to a gift.

Many of you may already know that at the beginning of the term Mrs Yates was successful at interview and was promoted to the Senior Leadership Team as an Assistant Headteacher.  She will primarily remain in the classroom for the rest of the academic year to carry on working with Year 6 children and she will also take the lead role on assessment.  As from September Miss Bore has been appointed to the Team Leader in Years 5/6.

As school is still expanding, we are extremely pleased to have been able to appoint a new teacher, Mrs Humphries.  Not only was she an excellent candidate at interview, but she is also one of our own Initial Teacher Trainees who is currently training in Year 6.  She will already have spent the best part of a year with us when she starts in September.

LIDL GATE

Our sincere apologies but we have only just found out that There is some work taking place at Lidl. Unfortunately they have had to close the access gate to school for a short time.

The manager at Lidl says hopefully the gate will be reopened in approximately 4 weeks, but the whole work will be for 3 months.

We will keep you in touch as soon as we know any further news.

PAPER NEWSLETERS

A reminder that there is a display stand in the entrance hall containing a variety of useful leaflets including paper copies of this Newsletter.

SCHOOL DINNER MONEY INCREASE

Nottinghamshire County Council is increasing the price of a School Meal to £2.22 from Monday 18th April 2016.  This will take effect after the Easter Holiday.

A reminder to parents/carers with a child in KS2 that they will need to ensure they have sufficient funds in their Squid Catering Accounts.  Following our recent audit, we have been advised that we cannot allow dinner money debt to increase. Only in exceptional circumstances may a child have up to 5 hot meals whilst you make arrangements for funds to be credited to the account.  Therefore, please note that we will be unable to provide a hot school dinner for any pupil who owes more than £11.10.

Please note that we would never let a child go without food however where there are insufficient funds in the Squid Account a child may be told they cannot have a hot school meal that day and will be provided with sandwiches.

Any problems please contact the school office.

SPORT RELIEF

On Friday 18th March, as part of Sport Relief, there was a fantastic atmosphere as every child in school completed a mile-long course around the school grounds. This will act as a warm-up for further activities to begin after Easter! We also raised lots of money through the sale of cookies during morning playtime. Well done everyone!

SCIENCE DAY

Thank you to everyone involved in Science Day.  The children had a fab time.  Click here to see the pictures.
