NEW HANDWRITING SCHEME

We have recently introduced a new Handwriting Scheme in school and the children are working hard on their letter formation and cursive handwriting. Resources to help to support your child with handwriting will shortly be available to view on our website. If you would like any more information about our new scheme or have any questions about handwriting, please see Mrs Aplin.

MUSIC LESSONS AT SCHOOL

In the New Year, there will be some slight changes to the days when our music teachers from Inspire will be in school for the music lessons.  We also have a new teacher, Mrs West, who will be teaching the keyboard.  Mrs Price who joined us during this term will continue with us teaching violin and cello.  The days for each instrument will be as follows:

Monday:  Guitar with Mr Castledine

Tuesday: Woodwind with Mrs Duffy

Tuesday or Thursday (still to be confirmed): Violin and cello with Mrs Price

Wednesday: Brass with Miss Di Miceli

Friday: Drums with Mr Brookes

Friday:  Keyboard with Mrs West

Children will be made aware of these changes but please can you also help them to remember their instruments on the correct day if their music day is changing.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs Briggs, Music Coordinator or Mrs Gibbons in the school office.

FOOD FOR LIFE PROGRAMME

Update – we had to postpone the event on Friday 7th December due to poor weather and we will try to rearrange in the New Year.

SICKNESS AND DIARRHOEA

A reminder that if your child has sickness or diarrhoea at school or at home, they must not return to school for 48 hours.  If you have any further questions regarding this, please contact the school office.

COLD WINTER DAYS

As always, we aim to keep school open in the poor weather.  We understand the disruption it causes to the local community and businesses when schools close.  We are fortunate to have a site that has good access, but some staff do have to travel long distances which could contribute to our school closure.

Unless you hear otherwise, please assume school is open.  However, there may be a time when a decision is made to close school.  Communications about school closure will be in the form of information posted on the school website and a text sent to the primary mobile phone number you have given us.  I will also inform the local radio - BBC Radio Nottingham can be found on 103.8, 95.5FM, 1584AM, DAB and live on the BBC iPlayer.

If you are interested in joining a ‘Snow Busting Team’ please let me know via email and I will add your name to the list of parent volunteers who are willing to turn up at school with a shovel to help clear the paths around school.

MAGICAL MATHS

Magical Maths is returning to Round Hill in the New Year.  Please find below a message from the Magical Maths team:

Magical Maths is returning to Round Hill with a brand new super fun after school maths club and we would like to invite your child/children to come along and join us for some ‘fantastic mathemagical fun!’

We'll be starting the club on Tuesday 8th January and running for 6 Tuesdays in total.  Magical Maths is packed full of exciting games and activities that are super fun and highly educational (but don't tell the children!).  Please be aware though, that we do have limited availability and places do fill up fast. The places will be on a first come first served basis, so be sure to sign up quickly to secure your spot!  Visit www.magicalmathsclub.com or call 0115 871 2024 for details.

CLAY CREATORS

Clay Creators held an assembly in school on 17th December and talked to the children about their after-school classes and holiday clubs that they run.  For further details please see the flyer on our website or click on one of the following links for specific activities at Round Hill.  If your child is in Key Stage 1, please click here.  Or if your child is in Key Stage 2, please click here.

CHILDREN IN NEED

Thank you for all of your donations for Children in Need.  We raised £315 for this fantastic cause.

ICE PACKS

If your child has had a bump at school and has taken one of our ice packs home with them, please can you return it to school.

SCHOOL MENU

On Tuesday 8th January there will be a change to the school menu and it will be pasta Neapolitan with garlic bread. Second course will remain the same and will be pancakes.

KEY STEPS GYMNASTIC COMPETITION

On a very cold Tuesday afternoon we took a team of KS1 children to the key steps gymnastic competition at George Spencer Academy. The children were so excited to be taking part, especially as we were going on the tram! They all did a great job of representing the school and enjoyed watching the George Spencer students showcasing their gymnastic talent.

MUSIC CONCERT AT ALDERMAN WHITE

On Wednesday 5th December, the Round Hill choirs and orchestra performed a wonderful concert at Alderman White alongside the Alderman White orchestra and swing band. It was an evening that showed the amazing talent of our current and previous pupils' musical achievements. A big thank you to parents who brought their children and attended the concert!

SEASON OF LIGHT EVENT

Thank you to all those who attended and supported the Season of Light event on Saturday 1st December at the Methodist Church on Chilwell High Road. It was a busy and brilliant event with lots of fun activities based on seasonal celebrations such as Diwali, Hanukkah, Advent and Milad.  Thank you so much to the recorder club and KS2 choir who gave fantastic performances. We are so lucky to have so many incredibly talented children at Round Hill!

KS1 TOY WORKSHOP

All of the KS1 children had a brilliant time at the Toy Workshop and produced some fantastic wooden moving toys. With guidance from the toy specialists, they were all able to sand, drill and assemble their own toys independently.

KS1 PHONICS WORKSHOP

Thank you to all of the parents who attended the Key Stage 1 Phonics Workshop. We hope that you found the event informative and enjoyed the opportunity to go back to school and partake in a phonics lesson. If you were unable to attend the event, then please visit the school's website to find a copy of the phonics presentation.

SANTA’S SETBACKS

It was great to see so many of you in the audience at this year's Key Stage 1 Christmas performance 'Santa's Setbacks'.  We hope that you enjoyed the show. The children put on a great performance and they should be very proud of their efforts. Thank you once again to all of the parents for providing costumes and supporting the children.
