SPACE CHASE SUMMER READING CHALLENGE 2019

Every summer, libraries across the country challenge children to read 6 library books over the summer holidays and children can receive prizes if they complete the challenge! The Summer Reading Challenge 2019 theme is Space Chase, inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.  We are excited that pupils from Round Hill will be working with Beeston Libraries' artist and author in residence to create work for our ‘Out of the World’ exhibition which is inspired by the Summer Reading Challenge. Year 3 and 4 pupils will be working over the coming weeks to create work for the exhibition.  Parents and carers will be able to view the children's work on display at Beeston Library over the summer holidays. We can't wait to see what they come up with!

YEAR 2 CAMP VOLUNTEERS

We would be grateful for some parent volunteers to help us put up the tents for the Year 2 Camp on Wednesday 10th July at 9.00am. If you are available to help, then please inform Miss Naylor or one of the KS1 teachers. Your help is greatly appreciated.

KS1 SPORTS DAY – TUESDAY 2ND JULY

Please note that the new date for the Key Stage 1 Sports Day is Tuesday 2nd July at 1.30pm-3.30pm (having been postponed because of the wet weather). Please ensure that your child arrives at school wearing their P.E kit and that they have a water bottle and sun hat. Parents will be able to access the Sports Day event via the side gate on the large playground. At the end of the event, all of the children in Key Stage 1 will go back to their classrooms with their class teacher to collect their home time belongings. Parents can then pick up their child in the usual way.

ACHIEVEMENT FOR ALL

We are very proud to tell you that we have been successful once again in gaining the Quality Mark for Achievement for All.  The Deputy Regional Lead and Regional Lead from AFA will be visiting school soon to celebrate our success and to present our award.

MUSIC SUMMER CONCERT – WEDNESDAY 17TH JULY

Our annual music concert will take place on Wednesday 17th July at 4pm in the school hall.  The concert will include a wide range of music groups that are at Round Hill including our amazing orchestra and choirs.  We look forward to seeing you there!

PARENTS’ FORUM BLOG

Thank you to the parents who attended this meeting on 13th June and also to Mrs Taylor and Miss Morle for presenting.  If you would like to know more about what we discussed and get a sneak preview of the new School Vision then click here to read the Parents’ Forum Blog.

SQUID DINNER MONEY ACCOUNTS

Now that we are in the final half term of the academic year, I would like to request that you continue to ensure that there are sufficient funds in your Squid account to cover school meals.

In addition, if your child is in Year 6 and due to leave Round Hill then please consider whether you may be in credit at the end of term.  If you would like to transfer any outstanding balance to a sibling then the office team are able to do this for you so please get in touch with them.  Alternatively, if you are in credit at the end of term, you can request a refund via the ‘contact us’ section on sQuid.  Please note, the office team are not able to arrange refunds for you, only transfers to a siblings account within Round Hill.

NUT  ALLERGIES

A reminder that we already have children in school with severe nut allergies and as of September we will have some very young highly allergic children.  Please do not send your child into school with treats for other pupils that contain nuts.  The nut ban includes children’s packed lunches, specifically chocolate spread, peanut butter and anything containing sesame seeds.  Please speak to your child’s class teacher for further advice.   A child’s life is at risk should we not adhere to this.

ALLERGIES

If your child has an allergy, whether very mild or more severe, please make sure that school is aware of this.  Even if your child never stays for a school meal, it is vital that we have a record of this on our system.  Please either call into the school office or e-mail the team at office@roundhill.notts.sch.uk

ROUNDERS TOURNAMENT

Mr Heaps and Mrs Humphries took a team of 11 pupils to the Broxtowe Active Schools Rounders Tournament on 6th June. Pitted against Wadsworth, Awsworth and John Clifford looked like a tough ask for the team, consisting of both Y5 and Y6 pupils. It turned out they needn't have been concerned as they raced through to the final winning all three pool matches.

Other schools commented on how well-drilled and accurate the team were and this was a huge boost going in to the final against Bramcote Hills. After a very tense but enjoyable game Round Hill pipped them by 7.5 to 6.5 rounders. The team were just amazing all afternoon and represented Round Hill with passion, determination and a real sense of fun!

MINI TENNIS TOURNAMENT

Eight Year 3 and 4 children competed in a Mini Tennis Tournament held at Attenborough Tennis Club. Despite it being a very hot and sunny day, the children did their best and showed great sportsmanship. The Year 4 team came second and earned a place in the county finals. Well done to all the children who took part.

RHA

Thanks to all who came to this year's Summer Fair. The small spell of good weather meant it was one of the best attended in recent years.

Thanks to all the volunteers who helped organise, set-up and run the event on the day.  The fair couldn't work without you!

We had a record number of stalls including 12 Pound project teams all of whom added some interesting activities to the usual fair attractions.

On the day we raised £2,900.  This will be used to help fund the extension to the all-weather track.

Year 6 raised £650 towards their end of year trip.

Well done to all.
