OPEN DAY / ANNUAL REPORTS

It was lovely to see so many parents/carers at our Open Day last Tuesday.   We hope that you enjoyed coming in to see what your children have been learning about this last year.  Thank you once again for your support.

Just a polite reminder to please return the acknowledgement/comment slip that was with the school reports to confirm you have received your child’s report.

After an initial delay, the online attendance and up-to- date assessments are live and can be accessed by clicking here.  Let us know what you think about our reporting arrangement via the usual channels or by attending our autumn term Parents’ Forum.

INFORMATION LEAFLETS FOR Y2 PARENTS

If you have a child in Year 2 they will have taken the National Curriculum tests, also known as SATs, in May. Your child’s teacher will use what they have seen in the classroom, as well as the results of these tests, to help judge how well your child is progressing overall in maths, reading, writing and science. The combined results will also help teachers identify if your child needs further support, and to put this in place as early as possible. The DfE have issued some information for parents which can be accessed by clicking here.

INFORMATION LEAFLETS FOR Y6 PARENTS

This information is for parents with children in Year 6 written by the DfE.  By clicking here you will see an explanation of what is contained in reports from schools about pupils’ assessments at the end of key stage 2. It describes the role of National Curriculum tests and teacher assessments, as well as how results are used.

SUMMER HOLIDAY CHALLENGE

Beeston Library will reopen on 5th August following extensive refurbishment. The library closed last year to enable a series of improvements to the building’s infrastructure. Click here to find out more details of the new library.  The library is once again doing a reading challenge.  A copy of the flyer is in the Community Section of this newsletter and further details can also be found by clicking here.   As in previous years, we have created a ‘Who is up for a Holiday Challenge?’ sheet.  There are 5 challenges if your child would like to get involved. Click here to view the pages on our school website.

HISTORY DAY – FRIDAY 30TH JUNE

The children had an amazing time on the whole school History Day. I was overwhelmed by the quality of the costumes, the exhilarating atmosphere and the array of work on display in each of the classrooms. The level of enthusiasm and knowledge that the children were sharing with each other about each time period was fantastic. Our three judges from the Beeston Historical Society were incredibly impressed and they really agonised when they were trying to decide on the winners from each key stage. Congratulations to the Otters, the Robins and the Ospreys. We also had 14 individual costume winners and photos of each of them are on the History Display. Please can I say a massive thank you for all of the support from parents/carers, the children and the teachers for helping to make the day such a success.

A special thank you to all of the parents/carers for helping with the brilliant costumes; I know some of them were not the easiest to source but everyone made such an effort. It really was quite a spectacle! Any feedback from the History Day would be very gratefully received. Please send it to: office@roundhill.notts.sch.uk Thank you once again, Miss Bond.

FOUNDATION WILD AREA DAY

Foundation had great fun on their Wild Area day.  They enjoyed a day out with a picnic, stories and an ice-cream!

ASTRONOMER VISIT FOR FOUNDATION

Foundation stage children were fascinated by the stars when Nina Hatch an astronomer from The University of Nottingham visited with an inflatable planetarium last week. Thank you Nina!

TOP TRUMPS UPDATE

As some of you may be aware, Alex made it through to the live national final of the School Top Trumps Tournament which was held at Chester Zoo. We are delighted to report that Alex came third in the overall final. Alex thoroughly enjoyed the day and came home with a rather lovely Top Trumps goody bag and certificate. Alex said "I really enjoyed myself and I never thought I'd come this far in the competition".

CONCERTS

Well done to all Year 5 and 6 for their fantastic performance of ‘Happy Never After’.  It was truly amazing.

Yesterday we saw our final concert of the year, with performances from the orchestra, recorders, main choir and boys' choir. Well done to all the children who took part. At the end of the concert our annual Music Awards were given out- well done to Bethan who won the Alan Merry Cup.

RETURNING SCHOOL EQUIPMENT

Before we break up for the summer holidays can you please help your children to search for any reading books or any sports kit which belong to school.

REMINDER - DINNER MONEY CREDIT

Don’t forget that if your Squid Account is in credit at the end of term, you can request a refund via the ‘contact us’ section on Squid.

BUILDING PROJECTS OVER THE SUMMER

We will be busy over the summer holidays with 2 building projects.  One is to extend the toilets near the dining room corridor and the other is to replace the trim trail.  We look forward to you seeing both of these school improvements when we come back to school in September.

END OF TERM

The doors to school will close to pupils on Friday 21st July 2017, after another successful school year.  School will reopen again for pupils in Years 1-6 on Wednesday 6th September 2017.

Staff will start school one day earlier than the children on ‘Administration Day’.  We will set out our priorities for the coming academic year and refocus our efforts to make sure we are the best school we can possibly be.

AND FINALLY…

Thank you for all the kind words over the last few days and weeks.  All the staff really appreciate the time you have taken to say thank you.  I too am very proud to be the leader of such a hard working team of staff.

Have a great summer holiday and we will see you back fully refreshed in September.

Yours sincerely,
