NEWSLETTER 03 – 13TH OCTOBER 2016

REMINDER - HARVEST FESTIVAL COLLECTION

We will be holding a harvest (children only) assembly on the revised date of Tuesday 18th October. Donations of food produce including tins and packets can be brought into school on the morning and added to the display we hope to create in the school hall. This year we are collecting produce for Hope House on Boundary Road in Beeston.

NEW ADMISSIONS CONSULTATION

Further to the item that appeared in Newsletter 2, the Local Authority is currently consulting on the school admission arrangements for 2018-19. The consultation period is from Monday 3 October to Sunday 27 November 2016.  Find out more about the proposed changes for 2018-19 and have your say click here.

PARENTS EVENING

We are looking forward to meeting with you at the first Parent/Teacher Consultation Meeting of the school year on Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th November.  This is the chance to meet to discuss how your child has settled into their new class and look at their achievements so far this year.  To find out more about the communication strategy behind our Consultation Meetings click here.

After a successful trial in the summer term for the first time we are introducing an electronic appointment booking system.   More details will follow shortly.

Some parents will be notified by letter in the next day or two that they will receive additional time talk with the teacher on Tuesday 1st November.

MEET THE GOVERNORS

There will be governor representation at the Parent/Teacher Consultation events on 7th and 8th November.  There will be the opportunity to find out more about the work we do to support school and we will also be handing out the annual questionnaire to gather your opinions about how we can help to improve school even further.

APPLICATIONS FOR LEAVE OF ABSENCE

This has been in the news again recently and you may be aware that the Government made amendments to the Education Regulations 2006 last September 2013, promoting good attendance and reducing absences, including persistent absences (A child with attendance below 90%). It states that head teachers are not allowed to grant any leave of absence for holidays during term time unless there are “exceptional circumstances”.

Please read the following information on the school website first before considering taking your child out of school. Click here.

If you have any questions about the above information then please call into school, we will be happy to speak to parents to discuss individual circumstances.

CROSS COUNTRY NEWS

It already looks like being an excellent year for Cross Country at Round Hill! In the first race of the Nottinghamshire Cross Country League, 9 Year 5 and 6 children, Mr Abdy and a lot of supportive adults made their way up to Berry Hill Park in Mansfield on a bright Saturday morning. The girls were up first and everyone raced superbly with Rosie, Libby and Daisy all finishing in the top ten with Ciara not far behind them in 13th. In the boys' race Tommy did fantastically well finishing in 17th despite still being in Year 5. Overall the girls' team are lying in first place with two races still to go. Well done to all who took part!

FOOTBALL TEAM NEWS

On Thursday 29th September, the school football team made the short walk to Chilwell to play College House in what was our first game of the season. It proved to be a tricky challenge with the result not going our way despite some excellent performances from the team. We are already looking to take what we have learnt to our next match against Bispham Drive!

BROXTOWE BOROUGH COUNCIL PLAY STRATEGY

Broxtowe Borough Council developed a Play Strategy from 2007-2012 to shape the future of children and young people’s play throughout Broxtowe.

The strategy now requires a review and Groundwork Greater Nottingham, working in partnership with Broxtowe Borough Council have been appointed to update Broxtowe's Play Strategy.

In order to provide the best play facilities and meet the needs of the children and young people of Broxtowe, we need to undertake a consultation exercise.

This will enable Broxtowe Borough Council to identify and implement a range of priorities around the identified issues, needs and aspirations for play.

We need your help to make this happen by facilitating the completion of an online questionnaire by the children and young people in the school/class room environment.

If this is not possible within the school hours could this be sent to the parents to promote completion at home.

We have two online surveys:

5-9 year olds.

10-16 year olds.
