HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We are settling in to the new term and as usual the children are pleased to be back with their friends.  It has been lovely to hear many stories from the children about their Christmas holidays and it sounds like everyone had a great time.  We’re looking forward to a busy spring term.

PARENTS’ FORUM

The next Parents’ Forum Meeting is on Wednesday 31st January 2018 at 2pm and a later one on Thursday 1st February at 6pm (please note: this is a change from the previous date).  Please let us know if you are attending so that an appropriate room can be allocated.  As always, the 6pm meeting will only go ahead if there is sufficient interest so it is important to let us know if you intend to come along.  We hope to see many of you there.

MISS STEPHENSON AND MR SINGH

As many of you will be aware through your children, Miss Stephenson remains off school at the moment due to family circumstances.  Mr Singh, one of our supply teachers, is teaching in the class all week to maintain consistency.  Miss Woodhouse is also on hand to help too.  We have communicated regularly with the children about Miss Stephenson’s absence and they appear to have taken this in their stride.  However, if your child has been unduly affected by this or you need further information then please get in touch with myself or Mr Abdy, the Team Leader in Year 5/6.

CHAT AND COFFEE AFTERNOON

If your child receives Pupil Premium or Pupil Premium Plus funding, you are warmly invited to a Chat & Coffee afternoon at 1:30pm on Thursday 25th January.  This will take place at the Broxtowe Voluntary Action Building, Oban House, 8 Chilwell Rd, Beeston, Nottingham, NG9 1EJ. There will be coffee and biscuits and a chance to have an informal chat about your child, talk to other parents and discuss what steps you think your child would benefit from. Mr Joyce, the Pupil Premium Champion will be there to offer advice, discuss ideas and provide resources to allow you to confidently support your child in their learning at home. Come for the coffee and stay for the chat!

LOCKDOWN PRACTICE

Due to an incident in the local area just before lunch today, we have practiced our lockdown procedures in school.  We spoke to the children afterwards in classes and explained the reasons for this.  You may want to add further details if your child has any questions.

THE VIKINGS

Years 3/4 will be studying the Vikings in the summer term.  We wanted to let you know as The Lakeside Arts Centre is currently hosting a Vikings exhibition which you may want to visit.  The exhibition is on loan from the British Museum and York Museums Trust. Along with a broad range of fascinating artefacts, the exhibition includes the most well-known Viking hoards ever discovered in this country, including the Vale of York Hoard, the Cuerdale Hoard, the Bedale Hoard and the recently discovered Watlington Hoard on loan from the Ashmolean Museum. The exhibition seeks to provide a new interpretation and a fresh perspective on how the Vikings transformed and shaped every aspect of life in Britain. More information can be found here https://www.lakesidearts.org.uk/exhibitions/event/3537/viking-rediscover-the-legend.html

FOUNDATION PLAYGROUND BENCHES

With our ongoing work in the Foundation playground, we have recently purchased some brightly coloured benches for the children which we hope you agree look great and add some colour to the playground as well as somewhere for the children to sit during the nice weather!

PICKING UP CHILDREN DURING THE SCHOOL DAY

If you ever need to pick up your child during the school day for an appointment, it would be great if you could allow an extra 5-10 minutes before your appointment time.  This is in case your child is in another classroom or in an outside lesson and may take a few minutes to be ready to leave.
