Free School Meals

Who can apply?

Benefits

You may qualify for free school meals if your child attends a Nottinghamshire County Council School or Nursery full time (in line with the school’s published admission arrangements) and you receive one of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on- paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit.
  • Universal Credit- your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get).

In addition, if you are receiving one of the above payments your children will be entitled to free milk in school if they are aged seven and under (there is no age limit for children attending special schools)

Apply for free school meals and milk. All applications for Nottinghamshire maintained schools must be made to Nottinghamshire County Council. We also process applications for some academies and special schools, including schools outside of Nottinghamshire.
