NEWSLETTER 02 – 30TH SEPTEMBER 2016

MIDDAY SUPERVISORS NEEDED

Midday Supervisors look after the children’s welfare during the lunch break.  We are particularly interested in anyone who would be prepared to go on a list to cover for absence.  Please contact the office for more information.

HEAD BUMP LETTERS

Just to make you aware of our procedures regarding bumped heads. If your child has a head bump in school we always inform you with a note that will be placed inside your child’s book bag. We will of course encourage your child to tell you themselves and will call you if it is a serious incident.

REMINDER – INSERVICE TRAINING DAY WED 12TH OCT

School is closed to children on Wednesday 12th October.  Please make sure you have this date in your diary. In order to secure the best training for staff we had to choose a date midweek.  The dates for the rest of the academic year are listed below:

Day        Date

Wed      12th Oct 2016

Fri           10th Feb 2017

Mon      24th Jul 2017

Tue        25th Jul 2017

REMINDER - PARENTS’ FORUM

If you would like to get involved in school life the date of the next Parents’ Forum meeting is 11th October at 2.00 p.m.  There was a really good attendance at the last meeting - please let us know if you are attending this time so that an appropriate room can be allocated.  Last term I also held a later Parents’ Forum meeting at 6.00 p.m. and I would like to do so again, but please let us know if you are interested in attending this later Parents’ Forum meeting by contacting the school office.  The date of the evening Parents’ Forum has now been moved due to an unforeseen date clash to 13th October at 6.00 p.m. This later event will only go ahead if there is sufficient interest so it is important to let us know if you intend to come along.

If you would like to know more about Parents’ Forum or you want to read the Blog Click here.

So what is a Blog? It’s a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group that is written in an informal or conversational style.

DID YOU MISS NEWSLETTER 1?

If you missed Newsletter 1 you can click here to view it online. Alternatively you can find a copy on the various notice boards around school or ask at the office and they will send you a paper copy.

STAR WRITER

We are keen to celebrate success in writing with you, therefore we have continued with our 'Star Writer' notice board which is located near the hall. Each week class teachers will choose a child who has produced a piece of ‘star writing’. This work will be displayed on the Star Writer Notice Board the following week so that you are able to come and see their work should you wish to.

SCHOOL UNIFORM SHOP AND LOST PROPERTY

The shop will be open for business each MONDAY from 3.15pm in the entrance hall. If you are able to volunteer to help out in the Uniform Shop then please speak to the organisers who would really appreciate your help.

HARVEST FESTIVAL COLLECTION

We will be holding a harvest (children only) assembly on the revised date of Tuesday 18th October. Donations of food produce including tins and packets can be brought into school on the morning and added to the display we hope to create in the school hall. This year we are collecting produce for Hope House on Boundary Road in Beeston.

REMINDER - UP-TO-DATE CONTACT DETAILS

It is very important that you ensure the information we hold for your child is correct in case we need to contact you in an emergency.  May I remind you it is your responsibility to provide up to date contact details and if your circumstances change during the course of the year then please let us know immediately.

GOOD WORK ASSEMBLIES

Good Work Assemblies showcase the excellent work that our children are doing in school. During each term every year group will put on a ‘Good Work’ assembly, these will generally take place towards the end of each half-term. We want these to be a real celebration of the children’s work whilst also giving them an excellent opportunity to improve their presentation and speaking and listening skills. All parents and carers of children taking part in the assembly are welcome to come along to watch and be part of these special events.

All assemblies will start promptly at 10:15am, so if you wish to attend please arrive at the front office for around 10:00am. The dates for assemblies are on the school website - we have put a great deal of thought into the start time and days of the week to minimise the disruption to the rest of the school. We hope that giving you the dates so far in advance will enable you to plan ahead so that you can share this positive experience with your child.

QUESTIONNAIRE/FEEDBACK

You may remember that in the summer term I sent all our Year 6 parents a questionnaire to complete so we didn’t lose their valued opinions. At the Consultation Meetings in November we will be asking all other parents/carers to complete the same questionnaire so that by the end of November the results can be collated and published. Look out for more details in forthcoming newsletters. Equally we would like you to add your contributions to the OFSTED run ‘Parent View’ website.  Click here.

BICYCLES AND SCOOTERS

Children are encouraged to come to school on a bicycle or a scooter. A reminder that items are left at your own risk, but there are several Cycle Pods round school so please remember to secure with a sturdy lock if they are left on site.

SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS – WED 5TH OCTOBER

A reminder that the school Photograph day is on the above date. The children will be having their individual photograph taken and a photograph taken with their siblings. If you would like a non-school aged younger sibling to have their photographs taken either individually or with their older sibling/s please bring them to school between 8.15 a.m. and 8.45 a.m.

Please let us know if your child does not want to have their photograph taken otherwise we will assume you are happy for this to happen.  There is of course no obligation to purchase them.

GREENWOOD ELECTRIC KIT CAR

In a special assembly to the year 5 & 6 pupils we launched a competition to win a Greenwood Electric Kit Car.

The IET Formula Goblin project is for pupils ages 9 – 11 years to take part in an engineering project to build a functioning and drivable electric car.

The car kit comes flat packed with step by step instruction guiding you through the build. By taking part in the build pupils will have experience of basic mechanics and on completion our Round Hill Team will have the opportunity to drive it at one or more of Greenpower events around the country!

The first step to getting a Roundhill team going is to get our Greenpower all electric car kit...

For the chance to win funding for the car kit we will need to answer this question...

How we will travel in the year 2050?

On one side of A3 paper pupils can answer in any form e.g. painted, written, collage etc. We have encouraged them to be as creative and imaginative as they can...so that Roundhill can win the car kit! All entries to be in by Monday 10th October.

Good luck with the Competition and we look forward to seeing all your amazing ideas for how we will travel in the year 2050!

You never know...this could be you!

Jane Reed & Alex Barto-Smith

GOVERNOR NEWS

FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE SCHOOL GOVERNORS:

WHY DOES THE SCHOOL HAVE A GOVERNING BODY?

The school has a Governing Body to ensure that it has the capacity to improve and raise overall standards. Our governing body includes 18 members with a diverse range of knowledge, skills and experience. The governing body is an important part of the leadership of the school. However governors do not manage the school. That is the job of the head teacher and management team. Governors are there to:

•             Establish a vision

•             Ensure accountability

•             Overseeing the schools finances

HOW DO THE GOVERNORS ACHIEVE THIS?

The Governors achieve this by:

•             Receiving information about the school’s performance and comparing it with past performance, national averages and ‘similar schools’

•             Contributing to the school self-evaluation process

•             Establishing where the school’s strengths and weaknesses are

•             Deciding the priorities for improvement

•             Discussing and approving the school’s targets and timescales

•             Ensuring that the school has a School Improvement Plan (SIP) that sets out all the actions to be taken

•             Monitoring implementation of the SIP

•             Evaluating progress and achievements

If you would like to find out more about the work that the governing body does at school then you can click here to take you to the Governors’ section of the school website. Here you will find a list of the school governors and the minutes of the meetings.
