Mr Nash talked through the Head Teacher’s Report for the Summer Term and gave Governors the opportunity to ask questions. He explained that the number of children in school who do not speak English as their first language (referred to as “English as an Additional Language”, or EAL) is increasing and needs to be monitored to make sure that expected levels of progress are made by this group. He also explained the impact that moving to a significantly harder national curriculum has had on progress data, particularly for children in Year 3. The report provided details of sports funding in 2015/2016, and the Governors were very pleased to see how effectively this funding had been used to increase participation and improve standards in a wide range of sporting activities.
The Chairs of the three Governing Body Committees (P&P, C&SD and F&GP) and the Collaboration Working Party each provided updates on the meetings that were held in the Spring Term. The Governors also discussed membership of the Governing Body and how any upcoming vacancies should be filled, we received an update from Mr Nash on the school’s expansion, approved the in-service training (INSET) days for 2016/2017 and approved the updated Finance Policy and school budget for 2016/2017.
