PARENTS EVENING

We are looking forward to seeing you at Parents Evening today and tomorrow.

CHILDREN IN NEED – FRIDAY 17TH NOVEMBER

On Friday 17th November children will be allowed to come to school in non-uniform to raise money for Children in Need.  The theme this year is ‘Everyone's got a thing. What's yours?’  so if children want to come in clothing which represents their ‘thing’ then they may. E.g dance wear, football kits or any other non-uniform.

A family donation of 50p or more would be wonderful, but no child will be excluded from joining in of course.

As discussed at Parents’ Forum we have made a conscious effort to reduce the number of dressing up days in school.  We feel it inappropriate to unnecessarily support the profits of supermarkets and we want to focus on the real reason for raising the money in the first place.

ORCHESTRA VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

If you enjoy music and are able to read sheet music, you could be the person we are looking for! Orchestra are looking for a volunteer to support the learning of new pieces. You would be required to help pupils read the music that they need to play. Orchestra takes place on a Wednesday from 12.30-1pm. If you are interested or can offer help, please speak to Mrs Briggs. Thank you!

CONGRATULATIONS TO MISS LEE

Congratulations to Miss Lee, from the Otters Class, who is expecting her first baby.  Miss Lee will be starting her maternity leave around next April and we will confirm Miss Lee’s maternity cover nearer the time.

HARVEST ASSEMBLY

Tony Richmond from HOPE joined us in our school assembly on Tuesday 17th October to talk to us about Harvest and to explain to the children about what would be happening with all of the food that was brought in.  A huge thank you for all of your support with this year’s Harvest collection.

SAINSBURY’S ACTIVE VOUCHERS

It is this time of year when we reap the rewards from all of the Sainsbury's active vouchers that were collected during the summer term - they really do make a massive difference to school! Some of the new equipment that we have purchased this year includes:

•             A set of new scooters for Foundation

•             An outdoor equipment store for Foundation

•             2 giant chess sets and a giant jenga set for playtime use

•             Balls, frisbees, skipping ropes and other playtime equipment

•             2 new tennis nets

•             New foam javelins

•             Lots of other smaller bits and pieces for PE!

Thank you once again to everyone who brought in vouchers - it won't be too long until we need to start collecting again!

FOOTBALL MATCH RESULT

On Thursday 28th September, the football season began again in earnest with a very competitive match against Bramcote Hills. The team, wearing their brand new kit, started the game well and were unlucky to go in to the break 3-2 down. A fantastic performance in the second half, however, meant that the match finished as a 5-3 victory for Round Hill! Well done to all the children involved.

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE SCHOOLS’ CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE

On Saturday 7th October, 18 children from Years 5 and 6, Mr Abdy and a hardy group of parents made the trip up to Berry Hill Park in Mansfield for the first of three races in the Nottinghamshire Schools' Cross Country League. The meeting was very well attended with over 100 children in both the boys and girls races. All of the children competed brilliantly over what is a gruelling course with top twenty finishes for Bea (14th), Phoebe (20th), Samuel (13th) and William (14th).

In addition to this, the Year 5/6 girls’ team - made up of our first three finishers - Bea, Phoebe and Charlotte (who is only in Year 4!!) - are currently lying in 3rd position overall in the team competition. Well done to everyone who competed and we are looking forward to the next round already!

SPORTSHALL ATHLETICS COMPETITION

On Tuesday 31st October, 23 children from Year 5 and 6 as well as Mr Abdy, Miss Woodhouse and some cheerleading parents attended the South Broxtowe Sports Hall Athletics competition at George Spencer Academy. The competition was fierce with 9 schools in attendance and events included sprints, obstacle races and various throwing and jumping disciplines. Once the points were tallied at the end of the afternoon, it was very close indeed but Round Hill came out as champions and now move on to the Broxtowe finals in January. Well done to all those who took part and thanks to our supporters!

COMMUNITY FLYERS

We appreciate that as a school we are getting asked more and more to distribute community flyers for after school / weekend activities etc.  We have made the decision that where possible, instead of including a flyer in your child’s bag, we will put a copy of it in the Community Section of our Newsletter.  There will still be occasions where it is necessary to send flyers / booklets home but we will be aiming to cut down on this wherever possible.
