NEWSLETTER 12 – 22ND FEBRUARY 2017
COMIC DONATIONS
Thank you to everyone who has donated reading books to the school. We don’t need any more books now but would love any comics instead. If you have any comics you’re happy to donate please bring them into the office.
NEARLY NEW SCHOOL UNIFORM
We will no longer be selling the nearly new school uniform in the school reception area after school on a Monday. Instead, you can purchase the nearly new uniform at any time from the rail in the hall corridor. There is a donation tin on the clothes rail for you to make a donation.
WORLD BOOK DAY – 2ND MARCH 2017
To celebrate World Book Day, children are welcome to come to school on 2nd March dressed up as their favourite book character. Children can also bring their favourite book into school to share with their class. We will take photos of the children with their books and put them on display around school.
SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS YEARS 1-6
On Tuesday 7th March the photographer will be in school taking class and team photographs. Please note that the Foundation Stage will have their photographs taken later in the year.
CHRISTMAS STAMP DESIGN COMPETITION
During this half term, the whole school will be taking part in the Royal Mail’s Christmas Stamp Design Competition. The competition theme is ‘What does the Christmas season mean to you?’ and the children can design an image that best describes what the festive period means to them. The Queen will select two pupils' designs from Primary Schools around the country to be put on millions of 2017 Christmas stamps.
VISIT FROM UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM
Just before half term, the whole school was treated to a performance by clarinet players from the University of Nottingham. The students performed several familiar pieces including the Simpson's theme tune and music from Harry Potter. The children all got involved, clapping along and asking questions about the instruments.
JUNIOR PLAYGROUND – TRIM TRAIL UPDATE
Lots of work is happening in the background to update the trim trail and we hope to have some news very soon with regards to next steps. We have decided not to demolish the existing equipment due to the high cost of doing so and are therefore currently getting some quotes for a replacement trim trial. We will work with our Governors to look at the best option available to us.
CROSS COUNTRY – KS2 RACE
On Friday 3rd February, 55 children from Key Stage 2 took part in a cross country race at Wollaton Park, organised by Nottingham High School. The children all represented the school brilliantly and also gave 100% in all of the races. Individually, there were top ten finishes in all of the races with Charlotte (from Year 3!) winning the Y3/4 girls race, closely followed by Bea in 3rd place. William just missed out on a medal in the Y3/4 boys race finishing 4th, whilst Hannah was 7th in the Year 5/6 girls race. Tomas and Tommy finished 9th and 10th respectively in the Year 5/6 boys race. We also picked up silver medals in both of the Year 3/4 team competitions whilst the Year 5/6 girls team also won a bronze medal. A very successful day's work! Well done to all those who took part and thanks to all of the supporters who also came along!
CROSS COUNTRY – COUNTY SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIPS
On Saturday 4th February, Round Hill had 6 children representing Broxtowe in the County Schools Cross Country Championships which were also held at Wollaton Park. In the Year 5/6 girls race, Rosie continued her excellent form by finishing in the medals and securing not only a bronze medal but also a place at the Inter-Counties Championships next month. Hannah also finished a commendable 23rd which was a great result, whilst Daisy was unfortunately unable to compete due to injury. In the boys race, Frankie also secured a reserve place on the County team by finishing 12th (which is particularly impressive considering he is still in Year 5!) and he was followed closely by Tomas in 16th. Tommy (23rd) and Ted (57th) were the schools other representatives who will also be racing in the same age category next year. Well done to all of the children involved - it is fantastic to have children performing at such a high level!
REMINDER – SAINSBURY’S ACTIVE KIDS VOUCHERS
Thanks for all of the donations of Sainsbury’s Active kids vouchers – please keep sending these in. Our box is outside the school office or your child can give them to their class teacher.
