Every child deserves the best start as they venture towards their first year at school. Our Early Years Team are dedicated to providing an environment where children feel safe and secure to express themselves and explore, investigate and learn. We provide a quality and consistent education and care to all with experiences, making memories and providing endless opportunities under pinning everything we do.

P.E
P.E day for all classes will be on a Friday morning.
Children are to come to school in their P.E kits. For further information on P.E kits, please click on the link.
Wild Area Day 
Children in the Daffodils class and Snowdrops class will be going to the Wild Area every Monday afternoon (weather permitting). Children in the Bluebells Class will be going to the Wild Area on a Thursday Afternoon. Children should have their wild area kit in school at the start of each half term. Teachers will send kits home with children at the end of each half term to be washed/changed.
All year round:
Wellington boots
Something to cover arms and legs (it can be prickly, sunny and very cold)
A waterproof coat and trousers
Warm weather
Suntan lotion (the easiest solution is the long lasting type that you can apply before
school.)
A sunhat (ESSENTIAL)

At Round Hill Primary School we want to develop a love and passion for reading. We feel that reading stories, non-fiction text, poems and rhymes expose children to an abundance of new and different vocabulary. Vocabulary is the key to new learning and understanding, aiding their future success.
Each week we will be exploring a different book. We will use this page to share texts and key vocabulary that we will focus on with the children.

The EYFS curriculum at Round Hill Primary School is designed to provide children with a rich, ambitious and inclusive start to their education. Learning is sequenced through carefully chosen themes that begin with children’s own lives and experiences before gradually expanding their understanding of the wider world. Intention Overview
This half term focuses on helping children settle happily into school and develop a strong sense of belonging. We will encourage children to learn about themselves, their families and their new friends whilst establishing routines and expectations that will support successful learning throughout the year. Through play, stories and discussion, children will begin to understand that everyone is unique and valued.
Why Are We Learning This?
Starting school is an important milestone. We want every child to feel safe, confident and welcomed into our school community. By exploring what makes us special and celebrating similarities and differences, children develop positive relationships and build their sense of identity. This learning forms the foundation for future personal, social and emotional development.
Big Questions
Each week, we explore a different ‘Big Question’ designed to spark children’s curiosity, encourage discussion and develop critical thinking skills. These carefully planned questions are linked to a high-quality ‘Book of the Week’, providing meaningful opportunities for children to develop their understanding of themselves and the world around them. Through stories, children learn about different people, families, cultures and experiences, helping them to recognise similarities and differences while developing empathy and respect for others. Alongside this, they are exposed to a rich and varied vocabulary, supporting the growth of their communication, language and literacy skills.

Autumn 2: It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like…
Intention Overview
This half term children will learn about celebrations, traditions and seasonal change. We will explore how and why different people celebrate events such as Diwali, Hanukkah and Christmas whilst also observing the changes that happen in nature during autumn and winter.
Why Are We Learning This?
Understanding different cultures, beliefs and traditions helps children develop respect and appreciation for others. Through celebrating a range of festivals and exploring seasonal changes, children begin to develop a wider understanding of the world around them and reflect upon their own experiences and family traditions.

Rhymes are a really important part of children’s communication and language development. It exposes children to new vocabulary, phrases and sentences that they may not usually hear, encourages children to talk in full sentences and builds awareness of rhyming words.

Phonics plays an integral role in helping children learn to read.
When a child can quickly recognise sounds and orally blend them together, they begin their journey towards becoming a fluent reader.
Weekly homework will be set for each group. This will include:
- Online videos of the sounds taught during the week, along with Fred Talk videos.
- Online books and quizzes through Oxford Owl. (Your child’s login details have been stuck into the front of their reading planner.)
- A Book Bag Book. (Please note: not all groups will be assigned this straight away.)
All children are now in phonics groups. To find out which group your child is in, please check their reading planner for a slip of paper that has been inserted.
