With effect from Monday 2nd June 2025, we will be transitioning to Taylor Shaw as our new school meal provider. Taylor Shaw is the preferred provider for other schools within Equals Trust and their service will offer our pupils a high-quality, nutritious, and enjoyable meal experience.

If you would like to find out more information about Taylor Shaw, there is a section on the right hand side of the page called Taylor Shaw.  On this page, there is lots of information about the company and the meals that they provide.

At Round Hill children can choose to bring sandwiches or have a freshly cooked school meal, which is prepared daily on the school premises.

There is always a non-vegetarian and a vegetarian option available as well as special diet meals if a child has an allergy confirmed by a Dr.

This school does not serve halal meat and therefore children who can only eat halal meat will need to choose the vegetarian option.  For children in EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2, you must confirm at the start of the school year whether your child is a vegetarian or is able to eat meat.  For children in Year 3, 4, 5 and 6, children are able to choose either the meat option or the vegetarian option each morning based on the school menu.

Along with the School Council we have made some changes recently to the lunchtime experience.  At Round Hill the younger children sit down together and, to promote independence, the older children use a hatch service.

Our school cook is Conny Knighton.   She is on hand to discuss dietary requirements and any other food related concerns.

Menu

To find out what is on the menu each week, click on the PDF at the bottom of this section. All dates can be found at the top of each menu.

The children in EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 are given the main meal option or the vegetarian option each day.  Children in Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 are also offered a jacket potato.

Packed Lunch

Children can also opt to bring a packed lunch. We are working towards children bringing healthy lunch boxes to school.

Allergies

This is a nut free school – we have children in school with a nut allergy.  Please do not send your child into school with treats either for themselves or for other pupils that contain nuts/sesame seeds.  The nut ban includes children’s packed lunches, specifically chocolate spread, peanut butter and anything containing sesame seeds.  Please speak to your child’s class teacher for further advice.   A child’s life is at risk should we not adhere to this.

If your child has an allergy, whether very mild or more severe, please make sure that school is aware of this.  Even if your child never stays for a school meal, it is vital that we have a record of this on our system.  Please either call into the school office or e-mail the team at office@roundhill.notts.sch.uk

Universal Infant Free School Meals

All infant aged children (EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 classes) will receive their midday school meal free of charge under the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) scheme.

The UIFSM is different funding from that of benefits-related free school meals. However, it is important that parents who believe they are eligible for benefits-related Free School Meals and the Pupil Premium also register for this, as this allows us to use the Pupil Premium to provide additional equipment, support and activities for the pupils.  Please see details under Free School Meals below.

If your child will be fasting in the period of Ramadan we would like to work with you to make sure we look after your child’s welfare in the best way we can.   During the period of Ramadan we would appreciate it if you could let us know your child will be fasting and if there is anything we can do to help support you and your child.

Be aware that it is the accepted view of health professionals that fasting prior to the age of eight years is not advisable and therefore SACRE advises School Leaders to support observance of the fast only for Year 5 and 6.

2025

In 2025, Ramadan is expected to begin on the evening of Friday 28 February 2025, and will conclude on the evening of Sunday 30 March 2025, with the exact dates contingent upon the sighting of the moon.

When is Eid ul-Fitr? The Muslim festival of Eid is celebrated at the end of Ramadan – the month of fasting. Eid is celebrated on the first day of the 10th month of the Islamic calendar. In 2025 Ramadan will begin on 28 February and Eid will follow on Sunday, 30 March

School will permit 1 day authorised absence for Eid Ul-Fitr and 1 day for Ei-al Adha.  Please speak to the school office for further information.

Please see the LA guidance below.

If your child requires a medical diet due to a diagnosed food allergy, diagnosed food intolerance or a medical condition requiring an adapted menu (e.g. carbohydrate count for Type 1 Diabetes), please follow the below link to request a medical diet. For further support, please refer to the following document: ‘Taylor Shaw Medical Diet Menus – A Guide for Parents, Guardians & Carers’. Kindly note, you DO NOT need to make a request for dietary preferences, or for the following diets: vegan, pescatarian, vegetarian or halal, as these requirements can be met through our standard menu.

Managing Allergies & Other Medical Diets

Your child’s health and safety will always be of the utmost importance to us, and having accurate information about dietary needs and allergies is crucial for us to prepare and serve meals that meet their requirements

Taylor Shaw’s dietitians and catering team work together and follow a robust process, so you can feel reassured that whenever safely possible, an alternative menu will be provided. All the teams receive allergy training annually, and whenever there’s an update to allergen laws.

Our guide ‘Medical Diet Menus – A Guide for Parents, Guardians & Carers’ contains further information about the medical diet process and includes step by step instructions for you to record this information to ensure we are fully aware of any medical diet requirements.

Eating a School Lunch is Better for Your Child

Did you know only 1% of packed lunches meet the nutritional standards that currently apply to school food? Here are five reasons school lunches are better:

  • They can save time & money
  • They’re nutritionally better than a packed lunch
  • They promote a varied diet & encourage new tastes
  • They support inclusivity, dining with friends
  • They help academic attainment by being linked to improved concentration

Free School Meals

Reception Class, Year 1 or Year 2

Your child will be able to receive universal free school meals if they’re in a government-funded school and in reception class, year 1 or year 2.

Year 3 & above

Your child may be able to get free school meals if you receive any of the following:

  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit – if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
